Remote computing is a way for two computers to connect via
the internet and special software, allowing a "viewer" to remotely access
a "host" computer. This means the viewer can control the mouse, software
and all Windows functions on the host computer.
Here are a few answers to frequently asked questions:
1. How does this service work?
All this service requires is an installation of a small piece of software
and a fast internet connection. The installation can be done easily
over the phone - I guide you through this process. Your computer then
becomes the "host" computer and a connection to the "viewer" computer
(my computer). This part is important to understand, as it assures
the security of your computer. No one can "connect" to your computer
without you first initiating that connection request.
Once connected, one or the other computer user can control the mouse
and computer. For lessons, it allows me to first demonstrate a skill,
then watch as you attempt it yourself. I have full view of everything
you see on your screen, exactly as you see it, allowing me to catch
mistakes and successes that I would never see otherwise. We will also
be using the telephone to provide the voice instruction as we work.
As has long been a hallmark of my tutorial services, I will provide
written notes, if applicable, at the end of the session via email that
you can print for future use.
2. Is this service safe?
Yes. I subscribe to a company that provides the software and the actual
"connection". This assure both a high level of security and an ease
of connection. Additionally, at the end of the session, I will show
you how to disable the software so it cannot be used for another connection
until you are ready to do so yourself.
3. How much does this service cost?
I charge $50/hour for my services and the connection, and will pro-rate
that into half-hour increments. This is the same fee I charge
if you were to bring your computer to my office and work with me in
person here.
4. Are there things you cannot do with this service?
Yes! As always, I do not diagnose or fix virus or spyware infections,
nor can I or do I work on hardware. This service is designed for private
lessons and some troubleshooting, such as basic tune-ups, etc.
5. How do I sign up to use this service?
You will need to contact me for an appointment.
I will need your telephone number so I can establish the voice
contact and guide you through the installation of the connection software.
6. How do I pay for this service?
For my established clients, I will accept payment via check after
the appointment. If you are not already an established client, I will
require prepayment. Please contact me for more information regarding
this. At this time, I do not accept credit cards.
